Japanese name:2026年観月会

📅 Fri, Sep 25, 2026

📍 Utsunomiya, Tochigi

About this event

The '2026 Moon Viewing Gathering' will be held, where you can enjoy the graceful sounds of gagaku court music and the heroic dances of Daidai Kagura while admiring the Harvest Moon. The venue was previously Gamo Shrine in Hanawada 5-chome, but after a suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been held at Imaizumi Yasaka Shrine since 2023. At the Kaguraden on the shrine grounds, performers of the 'Yasaka Shrine Daidai Kagura'—designated as an Intangible Cultural Property of Utsunomiya City—will present performances such as the 'Dance of the Giant Serpent' (Orochi no Mai) in honor of the Year of the Dragon. Additionally, the Yasaka Shrine Gagaku Ensemble will perform 4 pieces, enchanting visitors with mystical sounds produced by instruments such as the sho and ryuteki. This moon viewing gathering offers a precious opportunity to experience traditional Japanese performing arts while appreciating a beautiful moonlit night.
