About this event

Held in the Kitsuregawa district of Sakura City, Tochigi Prefecture, "Kitsuregawa Kitsune no Yomeiri" (Fox Wedding) is a community-rooted festival founded on the traditional folklore of the "Fox Wedding." In this event, centering around brides and grooms dressed as foxes (up to 3 couples), relatives and general participants also wear fox makeup and parade through the town. Starting with a solemn Shinto wedding ceremony at Kitsuregawa Shrine, the festival is packed with highlights including a gorgeous procession through Kitsuregawa Shopping Street, celebratory taiko drumming at the event venue, introductions of the brides and grooms, a celebratory banquet, tossing of sweets, and lighting of bonfires. In particular, the sight of people dressed as foxes parading through a mystical atmosphere truly evokes a "world of illusion." In case of rain, it will be held indoors at Kitsuregawa Community Center, so you can enjoy it regardless of the weather. You can become part of this unique festival either by participating as a bride or groom or as a general procession participant. Meal and matcha services, as well as kimono rental options, are also available, making it ideal for spending a special day with family and friends.
