About this event

The 46th Kusatsu International Summer Music Academy & Festival will be held for 14 days in Kusatsu Onsen, a summer retreat at an elevation of 1,200 meters, exploring the charm of Bach. This year's theme is "Bach is Cool - Cool Down with Bach." Bach, who was featured in the very first festival in 1980, returns to Kusatsu. A 14-day program is prepared to explore the depth and breadth of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach, an organist and Kapellmeister who was active from the late 17th to the 18th century. In addition to familiar faces such as Christopher Hinterhuber (piano), Thomas Indermühle (oboe), and Claudio Brizi (organ/harpsichord), new artists recommended by Artistic Advisor Michael Haefliger have also been invited. Why not spend a cool summer with Bach in Kusatsu, where you can find a refreshing highland climate, high-quality music, rich nature, and fine hot springs? A diverse variety of musical pieces will be performed, including J.S. Bach's Harpsichord Concertos and Orchestral Suites, Brahms's A German Requiem, and Handel's Ombra mai fu. Karuizawa performances will also be held.
