The 12th Joshu Hotakasan Skyview Trail
Japanese name:第12回 上州武尊山スカイビュートレイル
📅 Fri, Sep 11, 2026 - Sun, Sep 13, 2026
About this event
Held in Kawaba Village, Gunma Prefecture, the Joshu Hotakasan Skyview Trail is a trail running race taking place from Friday, September 11, to Sunday, September 13, 2026, boasting some of Japan's most demanding terrain and spectacular views. The event concept has been renewed to "High Mountain Adventure," offering a new stage for challenge. The two main categories are "HOTAKA (Noboru Yamada Memorial Cup)," covering approximately 138 km over the 2,158m summit of Mt. Hotaka, and "TONE (Teruo Saegusa Memorial Cup)," condensing the charms of Mt. Hotaka into approximately 77 km. HOTAKA has a cumulative elevation gain of approximately 8,017m, and TONE has approximately 3,970m, making both long trails designed for expert runners. Eligibility requires participants to be 19 years of age or older, possessing the running ability and experience to navigate long-distance courses in mountainous terrain autonomously. The event places great importance on coexistence with Kawaba Village's rich nature and local community, and an entry quota through hometown tax donation (Furusato Nozei) is also provided. This is a system where "running" connects to "supporting the region," utilized for trail maintenance, nature conservation, and regional promotion. The entry period has been extended from March 1 to July 13, 2026, allowing participants to select a division matching their skill level and goals. Checking race information, competition rules/regulations, mandatory gear, and other requirements in advance is recommended to ensure thorough preparation for the challenge.
