About this event
Held at the Saitama Prefectural Kumagaya Library, this historical materials exhibition focuses on Oshi Castle, known as "impregnable" during the Sengoku (Warring States) period, and unravels its history and allure. As one of the Seven Famous Castles of Kanto, Oshi Castle's resilience was symbolized notably by its endurance against the "water attack" during the Siege of Odawara. This exhibition features valuable materials that clarify the background and details of this water attack, as well as documents related to figures closely associated with Oshi Castle, such as the castle lord Narita clan, his daughter Kaihime, Mitsunari Ishida, and Hideyoshi Toyotomi. Furthermore, the exhibition approaches the Sengoku period and Oshi Castle from diverse perspectives through materials illustrating the lives of ordinary people in the Sengoku period, Japanese-bound books from that era, war chronicles such as "Kanhasshu Kosenroku" and "Hojo Godaiki", and novels set at Oshi Castle. This is an exhibition where visitors can feel the atmosphere of the era through historical documents and war chronicles.
