3rd Kamakura Kaido Kamimichi Picture Lantern Evening

Japanese name:第3回 鎌倉街道上道絵灯篭の夕べ

📅 Sat, Oct 10, 2026

📍 Moroyama, Saitama

About this event

In Moroyama Town, inspired by the illustrated lanterns displayed every year on the evening of the second Saturday of October in the Orui and Kuribayashi districts near the Kamakura Highway and around Gyokurinji Temple, the 3rd Kamakura Kaido Kamimichi Picture Lantern Evening will be held, decorating the Kamakura Kaido Kamimichi road with painted lanterns. At this event, approximately 300 picture lanterns painted mainly by municipal elementary school students will be illuminated. The 2026 (Reiwa 8) picture lanterns of the Orui, Kuribayashi, and Gyokurinji districts will also be lit simultaneously, creating a magical scene. On the day, a workshop corner for painting and crafting lanterns will be available for participants. Guided tours to view historic lanterns in nearby districts will also be conducted. The lantern lighting will take place on the Kamakura Kaido Kamimichi north of the Moroyama Town Historical and Folk Museum from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. In case of rain, the event will be cancelled and lanterns will only be displayed at shrines. Visitors are requested not to touch the lanterns or enter through gates. As pathways are dark at night, viewing in groups is recommended. Gravel parking lots are available at the Moroyama Town Historical and Folk Museum, Oruikan, and Orui Ground. Visitors to the Kuribayashi area may also park at the Kuribayashi Public Hall.
