About this event
The Kamakazu Kagura, an annual grand festival held every year on March 27 and 28 at Kamakazu Ise Daijingu Shrine enshrined in Asahi City, Chiba Prefecture, is a traditional Kagura that has continued without interruption since 1756 in the mid-Edo period. Designated as a Prefectural Intangible Folk Cultural Property, it is dedicated by Kagura performers and chigo (elementary school girls) to express gratitude for divine blessings and pray for a bountiful harvest. Performed at the Kaguraden stage are the Juniza Kagura and Chigo-mai, featuring diverse dances such as Sarutahiko, Uzume, Okame, and Taitsuri (sea bream fishing). This Kagura is said to have originated in gratitude for the success of the Tsubakinoumi land reclamation project once conducted in this region, and is deeply tied to local history. Recruitment of Kagura performers and chigo is also conducted, and it continues to be handed down as a community-rooted ritual.
