About this event
This year marks 70 years since the excavation of Tonozuka Kofun and Himezuka Kofun in 1956 (Showa 31). To celebrate this memorable year, a symposium will be held under the theme of how to utilize historical ruins and excavated artifacts for regional revitalization and community development. Co-hosted with the Society for Tourism Archaeology, this symposium will deepen discussions on the history, current status, and future of Shibayama Town's community development utilizing haniwa (terracotta clay figures). Keynote lectures will cover 'Regional Revitalization and Tourism Archaeology' and 'Current Status of Ruins Festivals in Japan and the Shibayama Haniwa Festival', while reports will present multi-faceted perspectives including 'Excavation of Tonozuka Kofun and Himezuka Kofun and Utilization of Excavated Haniwa', 'Current Status and Future Prospects of the Shibayama Haniwa Festival', and 'Tourism PR Activities Utilizing Kofun and Haniwa'. An active discussion is scheduled afterward, and exhibition commentary at the Shibayama Kofun and Haniwa Museum will also be provided for those interested. It will be a valuable opportunity to think about the future of the region while reflecting on the history of the excavation work in which many residents cooperated.
