About this event

At Suga Shrine, "Tori-no-Ichi" is held every year on the Days of the Rooster in November. This is a grand festival venerating Yamato Takeru no Mikoto, enshrined in the joint sanctuary, with the Day of the Rooster referring to the Rooster days of the twelve Chinese zodiac signs. Because the Otori Shrine name "Otori" sounds like "O-tori" (taking in large amounts), it attracts wide devotion as a deity of business prosperity and good luck that draws in vast treasures. In 2026 (Reiwa 8), Tori-no-Ichi will be held with the First Rooster on Saturday, November 7, and the Second Rooster on Thursday, November 19. On the days of Tori-no-Ichi, the lucky charm "Kaiun Kumade Mamori" (fortune rake amulet) is bestowed at the amulet counter within the shrine precincts. Rakes have long been regarded as amulets of good luck and business prosperity that rake in good fortune. Visitors who receive a Kaiun Kumade Mamori can draw a fortune lottery offering luxurious prizes, once per rake. Stalls are set up on the grounds, and dedicatory dances are performed on the Kagura stage. Distribution hours for the Kaiun Kumade Mamori are from 9:00 to 22:00.
