Arts Nakamurabashi 2026: Memories of Me and the Town

Nerima Art Museum will hold the exhibition "Arts Nakamurabashi 2026: Memories of Me and the Town." This exhibition is the second installment of the "Contemporary Art Exhibition Connecting with the Town" series that began last year. Under this year's theme of "Memories of Me and the Town," diverse works including sculptures, paintings, photographs, architecture, and installations by a total of 9 artist groups will connect "us" with the past and present of the "town" of Nakamurabashi. Why not enjoy a town walk exploring the artworks dotted around Nerima Art Museum and the Nakamurabashi neighborhood? The nearby downtown area becomes part of the venue, and at shops in the Santsu Nakamurabashi Shopping Street—such as florists, pawn shops, second-hand bookstores, cafes, and gelato shops—visitors can enjoy small artworks focused on sculptures and paintings. Furthermore, exhibitions that take advantage of the characteristics of the spaces are planned at former shops in the town and the former restaurant of the ward facility Sunlife Nerima. In the museum's exhibition rooms, lobby, and in front of the main entrance, a new ceiling painting installation by Maki Ohkojima and sculptures including new works paying homage to artists in the museum's collection by Kyotaro Hakamata will be on display, brightening up the inside and outside of the museum. There will also be "Guided Tours" where curatorial staff provide explanations while guiding visitors through several exhibition locations, as well as a collaboration with the "Atrium Mini Stage" mini-concert held in the Nerima City Office Atrium. At the end of the exhibition period, the "Art Marche," now in its 4th year, is scheduled to be held, featuring vendor booths at the Forest of Art Green Space, hands-on craft workshops, and performing arts events.
