📍 Adachi, Tokyo

About this event

Nishiarai Daishi, a renowned temple celebrated in Adachi Ward, has reached the 1,200th anniversary of its founding. To commemorate this milestone, a 1,200th anniversary commemorative event organized by an executive committee formed by neighboring shopping streets and local groups will be held. In the main 'Nishiarai Daishi 1200th Anniversary Festival', held from Saturday, October 17 to Sunday, November 8, special stamp rallies and various Daruma-themed events (such as a Daruma costume parade and Daruma doll making workshops) will take place. In addition, Awa Odori dance will take place on Sunday, October 25, followed by a commemorative riddle-solving event, safety prayers, and a mikoshi (portable shrine) procession on Sunday, November 8. These events will be held in the Nishiarai Daishi main hall and surrounding areas, accompanied by festival food and game stalls. Furthermore, on November 3 (public holiday), the 'Nishiarai Daishi 1200th Anniversary Karin Festival' will take place in the Nishiarai Daishi Kita-Sando Shopping Street district, featuring free distribution of Chinese quince (karin) fruits. All of these events provide an opportunity to celebrate together as a community while experiencing the history and culture of Nishiarai Daishi.
