Held for the first time in two years in Machida City, "Machida Jidai Festival 2026" is a festival of martial arts to experience with all five senses. Beginning with a period procession that lets visitors feel both the old and new history of Machida, Serigaya Park will feature thrilling demonstrations of gunnery, kobujutsu (traditional martial arts), battojutsu (sword drawing), and yabusame (horseback archery) where galloping horses run as archers shoot targets. The popular cosplay procession will be held concurrently, featuring cosplayers in traditional Japanese attire marching around Machida Station alongside warriors clad in armor and hitatare robes. A samurai armor workshop for children will also be conducted, allowing kids to wear the armor they assembled themselves and participate in the period procession. Providing an opportunity to experience Japanese history and culture, this festival also serves as a chance for foreign residents and foreign tourists in Japan to get to know Machida City.
