About this event

The Izu Oshima Geopark Rogaining Competition is an outdoor sport set against the spectacular backdrop of powerful volcanic landscapes and blue ocean vistas. With map in hand, participants search for checkpoints within the time limit and embark on an exciting adventure with teammates. Participants take on a map-reading challenge touring the wonderful nature, history, and sightseeing spots of the Izu Oshima Geopark. Izu Oshima is an active volcanic island located 120 km south of Tokyo; its intricately formed terrain is captivating, filled with magnificent landscapes and rich nature that truly make one feel that 'the Earth is alive!' It was certified as a Japan Geopark in 2010. This competition offers both a 7-hour category and a 4-hour category, allowing participants to choose a division based on their schedule and skill level. Families and friends can focus on touring sightseeing spots around town, or those confident in their map-reading skills and stamina can run dynamically across the entire island aiming for high scores. Local fixed-route buses can also be utilized, putting teamwork and strategy to the test regarding where and how far to explore. Special support is provided by Asian Orienteering Champion Shigeyuki Koizumi and 2024 Asian Champion Itsuki Ito, allowing both map-reading experts and novices alike to take on mystery-solving challenges designed by experts.
