About this event

"Ushi no Tsunotsuki" (bullfighting) is a traditional local event mentioned in "Nanso Satomi Hakkenden" by the Edo period literary master Takizawa Bakin. Amidst the shouting of "Yoshita!" by the handlers (seko), the powerful sight of bulls clashing against each other is breathtaking. The rule in Echigo's bullfighting is that matches generally end in a draw, and the masterful technique and brave figure of the handlers pulling apart the excited bulls is also one of the highlights. This event is a rare opportunity to experience Ojiya's passionate tradition.
