About this event

In commemoration of Sewerage Day on September 10, Tsubame City in Niigata Prefecture will host the Tsubame City Sewerage Fair 2026. This event is a valuable opportunity to learn about the mechanisms and roles of the sewage system while having fun. At the venue, a Treatment Plant Exploration Tour with guided explanations on how dirty water becomes clean, as well as a Water Doctor's Science Lab where you learn the importance of the water environment through quizzes and simple experiments, will be held. Visitors can also experience sitting in the operator seat of excavators and bulldozers active at construction sites in the Heavy Machinery Ride Experience, and make original pin-back badges by choosing from five different Tsubame City manhole cover designs in the Manhole Badge Making Experience. In addition, there will be an interactive activity to open and close a real manhole cover, an illuminated miniature house model display to visually learn the flow from houses to the main sewer line connection, and an exhibition of Tsubame City's designed manhole covers. Festival attractions like super ball scooping and yo-yo balloon fishing (limited to elementary school students and younger) will be available, and a Sewerage Consultation Desk will be set up to address questions about sewage systems, connections, and usage fees. Visitors will receive a complimentary gift set of flower seedlings and fertilizer made from recycled sewage sludge, and can also enjoy manhole cover coloring sheets.
