Hachimangu Autumn Festival

About this event

An autumn festival giving thanks for bountiful harvests at Hachimangu Shrine, which is deeply revered by the local community. It has a long history; during the Edo period, seven neighborhoods had young men pull and dedicate festival floats. Today, each neighborhood association pulls its own handmade float, creating a heroic and captivating spectacle as they parade accompanied by flutes, drums, and traditional Kiyari chants performed by local children. During the festival period, market stalls will also be set up, creating a lively atmosphere. On Saturday, September 12, the Yoimiya Eve Festival, Mikoshi Sen'gyosai (transfer of the sacred palanquin), and Dedication Mikoshi and Dashi Float parade will take place, showcasing the floats of each neighborhood in turn. On Sunday, September 13, the Reitaisai (Annual Grand Festival) and Mikoshi Togyo (portable shrine procession) will be conducted, parading throughout the city. On Monday, September 14, the Ujikomatsuri (parishioner festival) will be held. In particular, the portable shrine procession on Sunday, September 13, tours through the city divided into morning and afternoon segments, offering numerous highlights. Exclusively during the three days of the festival, the monthly commemorative goshuin stamp will feature a special portable shrine imprint.
