43rd Tainai Star Festival 2026

About this event

The Tainai Star Festival is one of Japan's largest astronomical events, held every summer in Tainaidaira. Stargazing enthusiasts from all over the country gather here to enjoy telescope manufacturer booths, starry sky observation sessions, astrophotography exhibitions, talk shows, and more. The venue is located on a highland at an altitude of 500 meters under a star-filled sky; after sunset, the light-free environment offers a spectacular view of the starry sky where the Milky Way is clearly visible even to the naked eye. At this festival visited by about 20,000 people, food and beverage vendors offering Tainai's proud local flavors are also recruited. The event is operated by volunteer staff and sustained by donations and merchandise sales. Please note that some hands-on activities and admission to the Tainai Nature Observatory may require a fee.
