39th Eiheiji Town Grand Lantern Floating

About this event

This is a summer tradition of Eiheiji Town, held at Kuzuryu River Eiheiji Riverside Park in Eiheiji Town, Fukui Prefecture. Approximately 10,000 floating lanterns are set adrift down the Kuzuryu River, creating a solemn and magical ribbon of light. Memorial lanterns are available for application at 2,000 yen, wish lanterns at 1,500 yen, and grandstand bleacher seats are 2,500 yen. Floating lanterns in remembrance of the departed and with personal prayers, this traditional event brings the hearts of the local community together. The countless lights reflected across the summer night sky and river surface bring emotional warmth and tranquility to visitors.
