About this event
The Goinmon Chodai at Zenkoji Temple is a traditional ritual also known from the rakugo story "Okechimyaku." It is believed that by having a monk press the "Goinmon," three sacred seals regarded as the alter ego of the Zenkoji Nyorai, against the head of a worshipper, entry into the Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss is promised. Affectionately known since ancient times as "Gohan-san," many worshippers visit seeking this special experience. This ritual is often held in conjunction with the Nanakusa-e ceremony, providing a valuable opportunity at the start of the new year to purify body and mind and pray for sound health and happiness in the coming year. Goinmon Chodai can be described as a special experience where visitors can deeply feel the faith and history of Zenkoji Temple.
