About this event
The 'Awano Hayashi Yatai,' held in Anan Town, Nagano Prefecture, is a traditional festival held annually on the first Saturday of October during the eve festival (yoimatsuri) of Awano Shinmei Shrine. 13 festival music pieces (hayashi) using flutes, drums, and shamisen are dedicated, with representative pieces including 'Noe no Yama,' 'Sakura,' 'Okazaki,' 'Yachiyo,' and 'Gionbayashi.' The performances handed down by the preservation society are showcased while making round trips over approximately 1 km between National Route 151 and the old road. Fireworks are also launched at the end of the festival, providing an opportunity to experience locally rooted traditional culture firsthand. The second generation of the float was newly crafted in the Showa period, and the third generation was built in 1989 (Heisei 1). Hayashi yatai floats are sometimes also operated in Kadohara and Furujyo in conjunction with their autumn festivals.
