Oraga Furusato Issa Festival

About this event

Held to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Kobayashi Issa's memorial, the 150th anniversary of Nagano Prefecture, and the 70th anniversary of Shinano Town's municipal organization, the "Oraga Furusato Issa Festival" is a commemorative event where visitors can experience the history, culture, and natural climate of Shinano Town, the birthplace of the haiku poet Issa. Admission is free. As the main event, a special dialogue between haiku poet Itsuki Natsui and Nagano Prefecture Governor Shuichi Abe will be held alongside a lion dance. In the first part of the stage program, attendees can enjoy presentations of local traditional performing arts and performances by local elementary and junior high school students, including Kurohime Ryujin Taiko drumming, shigin poetry recitation, yokyoku chanting, the Shinano Wind Ensemble Club, and Shinano Elementary and Junior High School 8th graders. At the outdoor market "GREEN MARKET SHINANO," delicious stalls focused on local ingredients and agricultural produce will gather, hosted by the Shinano Town Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Forestyle Shinano, Iyashi no Mori, and three local cultural facilities. There are also plenty of corners for children to enjoy. In addition, the "Haiku Plaza" features a haiku monument tour, a haiku gathering corner, Issa karuta cards, and a tea ceremony seating area, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in Issa's world. To reach the venue, it is approximately 10 minutes by car from the Joshin-etsu Expressway Shinanomachi IC, or via a circulating shuttle bus operating from Kurohime Station on the Shinano Railway Kita-Shinano Line. The shuttle bus stops at Kurohime Station, the Issa Memorial Museum, Shinano Town Office (temporary parking lot), and the Historic Site of Kobayashi Issa's Former Residence before arriving at the venue at Shinano Elementary and Junior High School.
