About this event
Designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Gifu Prefecture, the traditional event "Hanauma Festival" has a history of over 800 years and is known for its ties to Kiso Yoshinaka. The greatest highlight of this festival is the sight of three decorated flower horses (hanauma), chosen one from each of the three districts, parading through the neighborhoods led by young children (chigo) and musical accompaniment troupes (hayashikata). The heroic "Flower Snatching" ritual takes place at Sakashita Shrine, allowing visitors to experience a vibrant, community-rooted atmosphere. This festival deeply reflects the local history and culture, leaving a profound impression on those who visit.
