This traditional festival conveys the historical culture of the Nakasendo trail from the Edo period to modern times. It is held as an important event to experience the history of Ota-juku, deepen community bonds, and pass culture on to the next generation. Centered on Princess Kazunomiya, who married the 14th Shogun Tokugawa Iemochi, the Princess Procession features over 100 people dressed as six princesses who married successive shoguns, samurai warriors, and yakko attendants. In addition to the main highlight of the gorgeous, picture-scroll-like procession that invites you into the historical world, visitors can enjoy a full day of homemade festival events including matchlock gun demonstrations by a musket troop, stage events, a Rakuichi Rakuza market, and hands-on activity corners for children. Spend an autumn day enjoying an experience that feels like stepping back in time to the Edo period in historic Nakasendo Ota-juku.
