About this event

At Takao Shrine in the Ichishima district of Hachiman-cho, Gujo City, Gifu Prefecture, the Takao Shrine Festival Dedication "Takao Kabuki" will be performed. Boasting a history of approximately 250 years, Takao Kabuki is designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Gujo City; while amateur rural kabuki remained in several locations within Hachiman-cho in the early Showa 30s, this is now the only remaining place. You can witness local ji-kabuki where performers, backstage crew, and musical accompaniment are all carried out by local residents. At surrounding shrines, Daikagura and Ise Shrine rituals are also dedicated. On Saturday, October 3, Takao Kabuki will start at 18:00 in the Kuchimyogata Elementary School Gymnasium, performing "Benten Kozo (Benten Musume Meono Shiranami - Inasegawa Seizoroi no Ba)," "Kanadehon Chushingura Act 3 (Ashikaga Yakata Shinmotsu no Ba / Ashikaga Denchu Matsu no Ma no Ba)," and "Sugawara Denju Tenarai Kagami (Terakoya)." In addition, Kagura dedications will take place around Takao Shrine starting in the afternoon of Saturday, October 3, and Sunday, October 4. Takao Shrine Daikagura starts at 12:00 on October 3 and 4, and the Ariho Shichifukujin Festival starts at 13:00 on Saturday, October 3 at the Ariho Assembly Hall. Kagura and Shinto rituals will also be dedicated at Ariho Shu Fudouson, Ariho Hakusan Shrine, and Ogusumi Hakusan Shrine.
