About this event

Along the embankment of the Tsuya River flowing through Kaizu City, Gifu Prefecture, red spider lilies (higanbana) bloom in full glory. You can enjoy an autumn stroll feeling the seasonal atmosphere while tracing the murmuring Tsuya River. The blooming period of the red spider lilies is from late September to early October, and the spectacle of the entire embankment being dyed in crimson is breathtaking. In particular, for fiscal year 2026, the "Tsuya River Higanbana Festival" will be held over 2 days on Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4. At this festival, various events are scheduled, such as cast net throwing demonstrations, open-air tea ceremonies (nodate), sales of local agricultural produce, and food truck stalls. In addition, exclusively on Saturday, October 3, a mini concert by enka singer Miyuki Nagai will be held at "Mikage no Mori Plaza Shimotado" near the red spider lily colony, featuring a performance of the song "Tsuya River Miren" themed around the Tsuya River. As the surrounding areas are local residential roads, street parking should be avoided, and using the temporary parking lots (paid) or shuttle buses from free parking lots is recommended. From the free parking lot, it is about a 5 to 10-minute walk to the red spider lily colony. You can enjoy this beautiful natural landscape together with the local festival and events.
