About this event
The popular Ibigawa Marathon, a regular fixture in the 'Top 100 Marathons,' will be held again this year. The undulating course, where runners can enjoy scenic views woven by the clear Ibi River and autumn foliage on the mountains, is well-received for being fun to run from start to finish despite its demanding nature. It is a race where runners find themselves moved and energized by the warm cheers and hospitality of the people of Ibigawa Town, discovering they have reached the finish line before they know it. Cheering by Naoko Takahashi, who participates every year as a special advisor, is also immensely popular, with touching feedback from runners noting that getting a high five from her created the best memories. The simple yet undeniable appeal of the Ibigawa Marathon—being able to fully enjoy beautiful natural scenery while gaining energy from the many smiles of the people of Ibigawa—may well be reflected in its high number of repeat participants. The maximum elevation difference is 83 meters. Running along the Ibi River, the course is a tough one with many curves and undulations, featuring an uphill tendency on the outbound leg and a downhill tendency on the return leg. Because the return leg is downhill, the layout allows for an exhilarating run in the second half when fatigue tends to accumulate. Some runners even achieve personal bests by speeding down the descent. The clear waters of the Ibi River with their beautiful deep jade color, the fresh air, and the surrounding mountains that take on autumn colors if timing aligns allow you to experience autumn nature with all your senses. In particular, the gorge around the Ibi Gorge Bridge, visible on both the outbound and return legs of the course, offers a spectacular view where the surrounding mountains seem to loom right in front of you. It is a course where you can experience the joy of venturing right into nature. At the 'Sweets Aid Station,' delicious snacks from Ibi are all lined up! In addition, at the venue after finishing, you can enjoy the tastes of Ibi at the 'Ibigawa Grand Specialty Fair' featuring 60 participating shops. From the selectable participation prizes, you can choose rice (approx. 300g / 2 go) or local specialty goods, allowing you to savor the flavors of Ibi both on-site and at home. The town-wide hospitality is highly praised, with warm cheering lining the roadside continuously from immediately after the start to the finish line. Volunteers including local students and meticulously arranged medical relief systems are also reassuring. Many comments praising the extensive aid stations, race management, and roadside support are received from participants. Naoko Takahashi, a native of Gifu City who participates as a special advisor every year, sends cheers to runners at spots such as right before tough sections of the course.
