40th Atami Baien Plum Garden Maple Festival
Japanese name:第40回 熱海梅園もみじまつり
📅 Sat, Nov 14, 2026 - Sun, Dec 6, 2026
About this event
While Atami Baien Plum Garden is known for 'Japan's earliest blooming plum blossoms,' it is actually also a famous spot for autumn foliage. Approximately 380 maple trees are planted in the garden, and due to the warm climate, they usually change color from late November through December, earning the reputation as 'Japan's latest autumn foliage.' During this period, early-blooming plum blossoms begin to open around mid-November, so you may encounter the rare sight unique to Atami where you can enjoy autumn leaves and plum blossoms simultaneously. During the Maple Festival, opening of the annual footbath, the Atami Baien Maple Festival Photo Contest, and a magical 'Maple Illumination' are scheduled to be held. Unlike the daytime, the illuminated autumn leaves at night possess an exceptional beauty. When visiting Atami in autumn, be sure to visit Atami Baien Plum Garden to enjoy the seasonal beautiful autumn foliage, and depending on the timing, plum blossoms at the same time—a scenery unique to this time of year.
