About this event

"Chiineri (Kogaeri/Small Neri)", a traditional event held in Yokosuka and Nishi-Obuchi, Kakegawa City, is a festival rare nationwide where children of junior high school age and younger handle everything themselves from preparation and practice to festival management, using smaller versions of the neri floats used in the Mikumano Shrine Grand Festival. The children's desire of "wanting to try it ourselves" connects local pride and tradition to the future. Centered around Mikumano Shrine along Honmachi Street (Enshu Yokosuka Kaido), the town of Yokosuka is dyed completely in festival colors throughout the day with morning, daytime, and nighttime festivities. In the daytime, floats parade through the town, and at night, amid a magical atmosphere illuminated by swaying lantern lights, children's chants and festival music echo all around. Within the townscape of Yokosuka, which retains traces of an old castle town and historic shrine, the charm lies in the local community joining hands across generations to protect the festival culture. Experience the energy and inspiring excitement led by children in person.
