About this event

At Sakurai Shrine in Anjo City, Aichi Prefecture, the '2026 Sakurai Shrine Annual Grand Festival' will be held on October 25, 2026. During this festival, a traditional 'Bo-no-Te' martial arts dedication is performed. In the morning, you can see the Bo-no-Te Preservation Society depart from the community center, after which they arrive at Sakurai Shrine to perform dedications in front of the worship hall and along the approach. Highlights include children taking center stage in wielding the wooden staffs and techniques for parrying staff strikes with umbrellas. In addition, the festival features children's portable shrines (mikoshi) and festival float processions, creating a lively atmosphere. Charaboko floats and sokonuke (bottomless) floats will appear, each showcasing distinct musical accompaniments (Charaboko-bayashi and Chirikara-bayashi). Chirikara-bayashi is characterized by the use of taiko drums and shamisen in addition to Charaboko instruments. Sakurai Shrine is also a historic shrine where Tokugawa Ieyasu prayed for victory during the Ikko-ikki uprising.
