Special Exhibition: Record of the Three Mountains Journey and the Three Sanzenjo Pilgrimages of Obu and Chita Peninsula
Japanese name:特別展「三山道中記と大府・知多半島の三禅定」
📅 Sat, Oct 24, 2026 - Sun, Dec 6, 2026
About this event
The "Sanzenjo" is said to be Japan's most grand and rigorous pilgrimage journey. Although believed to have been a well-known term during the Edo period, most of the currently known historical materials are quietly preserved on the Chita Peninsula. Regarding the Sanzenjo that many people from the Chita Peninsula attempted during the Edo period and which has now "vanished," this special exhibition showcases materials from the Chita region centered on the city-designated cultural property "Sanzan Dochuki" (Record of the Three Mountains Journey), introducing its history and the journeys of those travelers. Through this special exhibition, visitors can connect with the religious devotion of the people of that era and their resilience in overcoming difficult journeys.
