About this event

To commemorate the completion of the Reiwa Grand Restoration of the Shoeido at the National Historic Site Fukozu-Matsudaira Clan Graveyard (Lords of the Shimabara Domain), a symposium and special public viewing will be held. At the symposium titled 'Reflecting on Shoeido', there will be a commemorative lecture titled 'Family Temples of the Daimyo', as well as research reports on the history and architectural characteristics of Shoeido and the burial facilities of Matsudaira Tadatoshi's grave. In a discussion moderated by Professor Emeritus Keisuke Fujii of the University of Tokyo, the historical and cultural significance of Shoeido will be explored in depth. The special public viewing offers a rare opportunity to observe up close the interior of Shoeido, which is normally not open to the public. This project aims to celebrate the completion of repairs to the valuable cultural property Shoeido and widely convey its historical value.
