About this event
The '39th National Owase-bushi Contest,' competing in singing voices of the folk song Owase-bushi, will be held at the Owase Civic Cultural Hall in Owase City, Mie Prefecture. Owase-bushi is a traditional folk song starting with the lyrics 'Yasa-horae,' which has been passed down as a lively party song in the entertainment quarters for sailors. This contest is held in three divisions: General, Senior (age 65 and older), and Boys and Girls (elementary school students and younger). Participants must provide their own accompanists, such as shamisen and ohayashi players, but can consult with the executive committee if they are unable to arrange them. The entry fee is 3,000 yen for the General and Senior divisions, and 1,500 yen for the Boys and Girls division. Applications must be made by September 30 by filling out the designated application form and submitting it to the executive committee secretariat.
