Storyteller & "Piano of Love" Concert

Japanese name:語り部と“愛のピアノ”コンサート

📅 Sat, Sep 12, 2026

📍 Kawagoe, Mie

About this event

A concert featuring the "Piano of Love," which was gifted to the disaster area by American actress Shirley MacLaine and others to pass down the memories of the damage caused by the 1959 Isewan Typhoon (Typhoon Vera) to future generations, will be held. At this event, a lecture by storytellers passing down the damages of the Isewan Typhoon and performances using the "Piano of Love"—discovered by students at the time and still in use today—will be presented. In addition to performances by two pianists, two local residents who experienced the disaster will take the stage as storytellers to convey the terror of natural disasters and the importance of disaster prevention. According to the organizer, a photograph with a message from Shirley MacLaine has arrived and is scheduled to be exhibited on the day. This concert aims to ensure the memories of the Isewan Typhoon do not fade and to serve as an opportunity to raise disaster prevention awareness. Admission is free, and anyone is welcome to attend.
