Bamboo Lantern Workshop & Ujitawara Starlit Cinema 2026

About this event

Taking advantage of the vast lawn and nighttime location of Ujitawara Central Park, a special outdoor movie screening event will be held. On the day, in addition to a very popular movie screening, hands-on workshops and various activities enjoyable for parents and children from noon will be offered. In the bamboo lantern-making workshop, participants drill holes and draw patterns into bamboo to create one-of-a-kind original bamboo lanterns. The crafting method is simple, allowing first-timers and children to enjoy making them together with adults. The completed bamboo lanterns will actually be used as venue decorations for the outdoor screening, providing the special experience of watching the movie in front of the lantern you crafted. The workshop will be held in two sessions: [Session 1] 13:30–15:00 and [Session 2] 15:30–17:00, open to the first 10 groups per session. The required time is about 30 minutes, and participants can join at any convenient time within each session's timeframe. Because electric drills are used, children of elementary school age and younger must be accompanied by a guardian. Wearing clothes that you do not mind getting dirty is recommended. On the day of the event, mobile playground equipment, a sunset market before the movie screening, and the opening of the Childcare Support Center are also scheduled, allowing you to enjoy the time leading up to the movie. Admission is free.
