Japanese name:NHK大河ドラマ特別展 「豊臣兄弟!」
📅 Wed, Jul 8, 2026 - Mon, Aug 31, 2026
About this event
A special exhibition linked with the 2026 NHK Taiga Drama "Toyotomi Kyodai!" will be held at the Osaka Museum of History. This exhibition focuses on Toyotomi Hidenaga—the younger brother of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, about whom it was even said that "had he lived longer, the Toyotomi family's reign over the realm would have been secure"—to shed light on his true persona. Just like the story in the drama, it dynamically portrays the Sengoku period from Hidenaga's perspective. On display are valuable cultural properties, including letters revealing Hidenaga's little-known true nature as a gentle and skilled administrator who supported his older brother Hideyoshi's unification of Japan, as well as a tea caddy identifiable as Hidenaga's personal possession. In addition, through battle screen paintings such as the Battle of Shizugatake Screen and precious historical documents, the exhibition traces the turbulent era through which the Toyotomi brothers ran and their way of life. Furthermore, highlighting talented retainers who supported Hidenaga, such as Todo Takatora, Kuwayama Shigeharu, and Motoharu, articles symbolizing their military exploits and documents conveying the lord's achievements are also introduced. As culture that blossomed from the Momoyama to early Edo periods, masterworks of Noh theater and tea ceremony loved by the Toyotomi brothers, as well as splendid furnishings belonging to Kodai-in, will be exhibited, offering a wealth of highlights.
