About this event

At the Hochigai Shrine Autumn Festival, on both the Yoimiya (eve) and Honmiya (main day), one futon daiko (cushioned drum float) from the Enoki district parades through the parishioner neighborhoods and enters Hochigai Shrine. The sight of lifting and parading the futon daiko, which stands about 4 meters tall and weighs a total of 3 tons, all at once is heroic and magnificent, capturing and moving the hearts of spectators. This festival is a community-rooted traditional event passed down to the next generation as sacred festivities. Hochigai Shrine has long been revered as a deity for direction protection (warding off unlucky compass directions), and this autumn festival serves as an important occasion to honor divine power and pray for the peace and safety of local residents. During the festival period, the entire area is wrapped in vibrant energy and visited by many people. It is a precious opportunity to view traditional sacred festival rituals up close.
