Imashirozuka Ancient History Museum 32nd Special Exhibition: (Welcome to Haniwa World) The Haniwa of Imashirozuka Tumulus
Japanese name:今城塚古代歴史館 第32回企画展「(ハニワールドへようこそ)今城塚古墳のハニワたち」
📅 Sat, Jul 11, 2026 - Sun, Sep 6, 2026
About this event
This special exhibition introduces the charm of the diverse haniwa (clay figures) excavated from the Imashirozuka Tumulus, a representative great king's tomb in Takatsuki City, in an easy-to-understand manner even for first-time visitors to Imashirozuka Tumulus and haniwa. About 25 items that are not usually on display, such as bird-shaped and house-shaped haniwa, are gathered together, and panels and photographs are used to explain what models they were based on and what meanings they held. For example, it explains that bird-shaped haniwa were believed to carry souls to the afterlife or signal the completion of rituals, while house-shaped haniwa were considered sacred objects used in religious services and ceremonies. It will be a valuable opportunity for families to enjoy learning about the world of haniwa during summer vacation.
