About this event

Held every autumn in Arima Onsen, the "77th Arima Grand Tea Ceremony Remembering Lord Toyotomi" is a traditional event celebrating the historical legacy of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who loved Arima Onsen and enjoyed tea ceremonies with Sen no Rikyu and others. Continuing since Showa 25 (1950), this tea ceremony marks its 77th edition this year. A tea offering ceremony (Hocha-shiki) performed by Sen Sosa, Grand Master of the Omotesenke school, will be held at Zenfuku-ji Temple, offering tea in gratitude to the spirit of Lord Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Additionally, multiple tea ceremony venues will be set up at Arima Grand Hotel Gachuan and Zuihoji Park (Nenbutsu-ji Temple in case of rain), allowing visitors to savor the spirit of chanoyu alongside the atmosphere of Arima Onsen. The tea seatings are strictly by reservation, requiring advance purchase of tea tickets and date/time reservations. For venue access, free tea ceremony shuttle buses will operate from headquarters to each venue for convenience. This tea ceremony is a valuable opportunity to experience the history and culture of Arima Onsen.
