About this event

The annual Amaimo Dedication Festival will be held again this year. It is a festival where local residents joined forces to revive the once-extinct Amaimo sweet potato and give thanks for its harvest. At the venue, sales of Amaimo rice and Amaimo sweets are scheduled, and a tea ceremony area where visitors can taste Japanese traditional Amaimo confections will also be provided. Anyone is welcome to attend the Shinto rituals. The specialty product 'Amaimo', once cultivated in the southern area of Amagasaki City, became extinct about 50 years ago, but was revived through the dedicated efforts of local residents. Characterized by its sweet taste and elongated shape, it was once even shipped to high-end restaurants. Revival efforts began around the year 2000, and the 'Amaimo Club' was formed in 2001, expanding circles of people through annual tasting parties and related activities. This festival offers an opportunity to experience the rare Amaimo and enjoy sweets and gourmet dishes made with Amaimo. Games where children can learn about Amaimo while having fun are also prepared.
