About this event
Frescolball Japan Open 2026 in Okura Beach will take place at Okura Beach in Akashi City, Hyogo Prefecture—a "city of time" through which the standard meridian passes. Known as the home beach of Frescoball Akashi GPA, the spectacular panorama created by the white sands of the Gold Coast, the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, Awaji Island, and passing ships of various sizes sets the stage for dramatic 5-minute rallies. Frescoball is a beach sport born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1945 and is enjoyed in more than 80 countries worldwide. The rules are simple: a pair facing each other rallies for 5 minutes, and judges score metrics such as total hits and number of attacks. "Compassion," hitting the ball where it is easy for the partner to return, is essential, and the key to earning high scores is keeping the ball in the air without dropping it while generating ball speed. It can be enjoyed "anytime, anywhere, with anyone" and is embraced in Japan as a "communication design sport." Even if a ball drops, there is no time to be downhearted; the charm of Frescoball lies in getting back up and connecting with your partner with compassion. In the TOP Div., some pairs play nearly 10 meters apart, yet their hearts are connected at close range. The event features a TOP division where ball speed counts toward points, and a CLASSIC division where total hits and drops determine the score.
