Special Exhibition: 'The World of Akashi Domain 14: Hideyoshi and Akashi - Battlefield and Stories -'

This exhibition focuses on the situation in Akashi during the Tensho era of the Sengoku period, when Hashiba Hideyoshi invaded Harima under the orders of Oda Nobunaga. Uozumi Castle in Akashi became a battleground between the Mori and Oda clans over supply lines to the Bessho clan besieged in Miki Castle, and surrounding temples are said to have been burned down in the warfare. In addition, records of the Kuroda family, who later served the Akashi Domain in the Edo period, detail how they were awarded a certificate of commendation from Hideyoshi for military prowess and their relationship with the Kuroda family who became lords of the Fukuoka Domain. Based on these related historical materials, this exhibition introduces the relationship between Hideyoshi and Akashi, including the realities of the battlefield at the time—where economy, diplomacy, and civil engineering techniques influenced the outcomes of battles—and the 'stories' of Hideyoshi handed down to posterity. Highlights include revealing the actual situation of the Battle of Miki staged in Akashi through archaeological excavation findings, presenting stories of Hideyoshi passed down through Kuroda family genealogies, and exhibiting Hideyoshi-related materials from various collections such as the Sakai City Museum.
