32nd Open Competition Exhibition: Wood Sculpture Folk Art Oya

About this event

This is a nationwide open competition exhibition of folk art using wood—the very origin of Japanese culture—as a material, offering warmth and comfort close to our daily lives. Started as a new genre in the art world, this open exhibition gathers unique wood carving works from all across Japan without being bound by conventional genres such as fine art, contemporary art, folk craft, or traditional crafts. Around 100 works will be exhibited, from which the Grand Prix (Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award), Yabu City Furusato Award (Governor of Hyogo Prefecture Award), Yoji Yamada Memorial Award, Excellence Award, Executive Committee Encouragement Award, Popularity Award, and others will be selected. Winning and selected works will also be featured in the official exhibition catalog. At the venue, visitors can appreciate heartwarming wood carvings filled with the "spirit of life from hometowns" gathered from all over Japan.
