About this event

Set on Shirarahama Beach, a renowned sightseeing spot in Shirahama Town, Wakayama Prefecture, the "6th Shirarahama de Hirahira T-Shirt Art Exhibition" is a barrier-free art event celebrating its 6th edition this year. Under the theme of Welfare x Art x Tourism, T-shirts printed with paintings and photos submitted from across the nation are displayed on the sandy beach. The T-shirts serving as art canvases are "made in Wakayama T-shirts" produced entirely from manufacturing to printing with 100% organic cotton by local companies and welfare facilities. This art exhibition also incorporates initiatives toward achieving the SDGs; proceeds from T-shirt production and event operations are reflected in the wages of persons with disabilities, aiming to build a framework supporting social participation and economic independence. Various thoughtful touches have been implemented, such as utilizing fabric scraps from the eco-friendly T-shirt manufacturing process and using Kishu thinned wood for display poles. In addition, a barrier-free area is established with display arrangements designed so everyone can view all artworks, along with dedicated beach mats and wheelchairs capable of moving over sand. During the event period, open-air markets and concerts organized by welfare facilities and persons with disabilities are also held, adding lively energy. It is an event where visitors can experience a universal space blending art with the scenic beauty of Shirarahama.
