About this event
An annual autumn grand festival held every year on the second Saturday of October at Nagi Shrine in Chizu Town, Tottori Prefecture. It is an ancient shrine dedicated to Izanagi-no-Mikoto and Izanami-no-Mikoto, who are said to have created the Japanese archipelago, and Mount Nagi as a whole has been revered as a deity since ancient times. At the grand festival, a variety of dedicated ceremonial events unfold, including the Kirin Lion Dance handed down from ancient times in the Inaba region, the graceful Urayasu Dance, and children's sumo wrestling. In particular, the Kirin Lion at Nagi Shrine is light green, featuring a rare coloration unseen elsewhere. The unusual sight of the JR Inbi Line railway tracks crossing through the shrine precincts is also one of the highlights, creating a curious harmony between the idyllic mountain village scenery and the running trains.
