About this event

A green tea (matcha) service will be held at Hanae Teahouse, a Hagi City-designated Tangible Cultural Property located within Hagi Castle Ruins Shizuki Park. This teahouse is associated with Mori Takachika, the 13th lord of the Hagi Domain, and is specially opened to the public despite usually being closed. You can experience matcha hospitality in a tasteful space steeped in history, where Mori Takachika is said to have plotted national affairs with his retainers under the guise of tea gatherings during the turbulent late Edo period. Hagi Castle Ruins Shizuki Park is a famous cherry blossom spot boasting around 600 Yoshino cherry trees, including the rare Midori Yoshino, while also being a beautiful park where you can enjoy seasonal flowers such as wisteria, azaleas, and Japanese irises. In the historic teahouse, you can savor matcha in a relaxed atmosphere while fully appreciating the atmosphere of Hagi. The tea service is hosted by Shizuki, a purveyor of antiques, tea utensils, and Hagi ware. The fee starts from 700 yen per bowl, and admission to Hagi Castle Ruins Shizuki Park is required separately.
