Kikuya Family Residence Night Museum & Night Cafe
Japanese name:菊屋家住宅 ナイトミュージアム&夜カフェ
📅 Sat, Oct 10, 2026 - Sat, Nov 7, 2026
About this event
At the Kikuya Family Residence, a Nationally Designated Important Cultural Property, the 'Night Museum'—offering a special tour of the residence at night that is usually off-limits—and the 'Night Cafe'—allowing visitors to enjoy special cafe time alongside the illuminated garden—will be held. During the Night Museum, holding lanterns bearing the family crest passed down through generations, the head of the family himself will provide commentary on the precious items preserved within the mansion. At the Night Cafe, from the historic shoin tatami room that once welcomed distinguished guests of the Mori Clan, you can view the Edo-period dry landscape garden with its magical illumination, completely different from daytime. Furthermore, there is an experience where you can enjoy retro music played from Japan's first domestically produced gramophone, with an opportunity for those interested to try dropping the needle themselves. Taking photos with the lanterns is sure to look great on social media, allowing you to spend a luxurious time in a prestigious space once enjoyed by feudal lords in a wealthy merchant's residence built over 400 years ago.
