About this event

The finals of the "SANU-1 GRAND PRIX 2026," which determines the "pinnacle of hand-kneaded noodles" among Sanuki udon artisans, will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2026, at Theater Mado (Marugame Civic Hall) in Marugame City, Kagawa Prefecture. Organized by the Japan Udon Association and sponsored by Marugame Seimen, this tournament is a contest where Sanuki udon craftsmen from all over the country compete in skill. The top six contestants who advanced through preliminary rounds held in three regions (Kagawa, Kanto, and Kansai) will take on the judging of soy sauce udon (shoyu udon) and hot broth udon (kake udon) in the finals. The winner will be awarded 300,000 yen in prize money, a trophy, and the title of "SANU (Sanuki) No.1." Last year's inaugural champion will also advance to the finals as a seeded contestant. Anyone aged 18 or older capable of hand-making udon can participate, regardless of whether they are professional or amateur. Coverage of the competition may be featured on television, in newspapers, magazines, websites, and social media.
