Indian Soundscapes: Enjoying Indian Sounds and Food at a Temple

"Indian Soundscapes" will be held at Koyamaji Temple, the 74th temple of the Shikoku Pilgrimage in Zentsuji City. South Indian classical percussionist Koichi Takehara will be invited from Tokyo to perform alongside Indian music player lilynaoto, who resides in Kagawa Prefecture. The tones of rare instruments rarely seen in daily life—such as songs from across India, the South Indian percussion instrument "mridangam," the metal jaw harp "morsing," and the North Indian percussion instrument "tabla"—will echo through the guest hall of Koyamaji Temple, which is not normally open to the public. The event consists of two parts: Part 1 starts at 11:00 as an "Indian Concert for Parents and Children," a 40-minute concert that can be enjoyed with young kids. First-time listeners of Indian music are also welcome, and you can feel like traveling to India while experiencing sounds and rhythms. Lunchtime begins at 12:00, offering South Indian cuisine from tirupati in Okayama, as well as baked sweets and drinks from Glen Coe in Zentsuji City. Part 2 starts at 14:00 as an "Indian Concert," where you can thoroughly enjoy music, singing, and instrumental performances from South, West, and North India. The venue, Koyamaji Temple, features a large sweet osmanthus tree approximately 200 years old, whose fragrance can also be enjoyed in late September. It is an event where you can experience a slightly different Indian culture and scenery within a quiet temple precinct wrapped in autumn fragrance.
