About this event
The 152nd Konpira Ujiko Festival and Kasuga Shrine Ujiko Festival, held in Kotohira Town, Kagawa Prefecture, is a celebration where you can experience local tradition and vibrancy. In the Uchimachi district, as part of the Konpira Ujiko Festival, a purification ritual and a procession through the town will be held on October 1. From October 2 to October 3, the Kakikurabe dedicatory event will take place at the Uchimachi intersection, featuring participating taikodai (drum floats) such as Nishiyama Taikodai, Kinzanji Taikodai, Takayabu Taikodai, and Minamishinmachi Taikodai. Meanwhile, in the Enai district, as part of the Kasuga Shrine Ujiko Festival, an exorcism ritual on September 30 is followed by a procession through the Enai area. On October 1, each taikodai will parade through the town, and the Kakiage will take place at the Municipal West Parking Lot, where six Enai taikodai gather alongside Kotohira's Awa-machi and Kinzanji taikodai. On October 2, after each taikodai finishes its tour through the town, they will assemble in front of Kasuga Shrine for the Kakikurabe (taikodai contest/fight) featuring Nishinaka, Rokujo, Hataoka, Higashinaka, Kuranaka, and Yokose taikodai, bringing the festival to its climax. It is an event packed with highlights where you can truly immerse yourself in local traditional culture.
