Special Exhibition: Ghost and Yokai Painting Collection (Tentative Title)

About this event

This exhibition focuses not on ghosts and yokai themselves, but on the 'paintings' of ghosts and yokai. Why were these eerie and alien entities painted, displayed, and treasured? In addition to exquisite monster paintings with elaborately designed artwork and mountings, visitors can explore the intentions of the painters who depicted them, as well as the faith and imagination of the people of those times. It will be an opportunity to deeply appreciate the world of ghosts and yokai as works of art through the precious collection held by the Fukuoka City Museum.
